Press release: Request for Authorization for the Safe and Expedited Entry and Passage of an International Humanitarian Convoy into the Territory of the Arab Republic of Egypt En Route to the Rafah Crossing
We recently witnessed a grave violation of international law when the Global Sumud flotilla, carrying humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people in Gaza, was illegally intercepted by the Israeli navy in international waters over the course of 38 hours, from the evening of October 1 through the morning of the 3rd. 462 peaceful activists from around 45 countries were on board the intercepted vessels, some of whom wore the insignia of international organizations. They were kidnapped and brought to Israel against their will, along with their ships, which were unlawfully seized and brought to Israel.
For two days we paused off the coast of Crete to repair mechanical issues and make sure every boat is ready for the final stretch. The images tell the story: people in dinghies, fixing, carrying, working side by side. Every challenge is faced together. Every delay only strengthens our resolve.
On August 4th, the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) coalition convened a landmark press conference at the General Union of Tunisian Workers in Tunis, gathering participants from over 44 countries in preparation for the largest civilian maritime mission to Gaza since the siege began in 2007.
